Originally only a handful of small companies, there are now some large search engine optimisation (SEO) players in the UK market and in the Liverpool and Wirral area. As the SEO industry has diversified, the type of ‘SEO company’ can now be split into three categories in our opinion:
- Design/Marketing companies – these firms have realised the potential that SEO has to offer as an industry and have added it to their list of skills. Not the mainstream of their business, many of these firms outsource the SEO expertise they need or have just one or two employees who do some SEO work. SEO jobs in these firms may require some multi-tasking and will usually offer little in way of cutting-edge SEO
- SEO specialist agencies – many of these specialist internet marketing companies have remained a small business, with fewer than 50 employees. SEO jobs in these firms can give greater job satisfaction to those individuals who want to play a strong role in a company and see the fruits of their labour
- Large internet marketing companies – often marketed as SEO agencies, there are still only a handful of these large players in the UK market, one or two of which are located within easy commuting distance of Liverpool. SEO jobs in these companies can mean taking a role in a single department of the firm. These sorts of firms can often offer a higher salary and some of the employee benefits that a larger traditional industry might offer, but they also mean being one employee in a large number and only getting to know one area of SEO at a time – and sometimes only core members of staff will get to know certain aspects
At StuckOn, we class ourselves as an SEO specialist agency, although we do also offer Pay Per Click (PPC), YouTube filming, social media and copywriting.
